Insignia shower range all come with a minimum 5mm thickness toughened glass. This glass can be either clear, tinted blue or smoke grey. Should a replacement ever be needed please quote model, date purchased and colour.
Is unlike normal glass and resistant to approx 6 times stronger than ordinary glass from breaking. Further to this when it shatters it will produce thousands of very small pieces. Design dictates it should do this as a safety measure., preventing large shards of glass that could cut very seriously into the human body. Each small piece can easily cut a person close to it but designed to minimise any potential of fatality, unlike normal glass.
While stated as an average six times stronger than normal glass in some cases it can be in excess of this. Hitting the centre of a shower toughened glass panel hard with something of a large surface, very rarely has the ability to shatter the pane. In many cases during the build of a shower an entire pane can be accidentally knocked over and providing nothing obstructs it during the fall, it will remain intact. HIT TEMPERED GLASS accidentally on a corner even gently IT WILL SHATTER nearly every time. This is normal and not just with Insignia shower glasses, so great care must be taken. On rare occasions, we are informed “the glass just shattered when it was picked up” It will never do this! Without question, it would need to have been tapped on a corner (the most vulnerable point) and this has caused the pane to shatter. It will not “explode” as some think it, it will shatter so fast it will give this impression. The chain reaction to a fracture will spread to the whole panel in a very fast time, probably a fraction of a second. This has led people to believe it has exploded.
On shattering sometimes the owner can genuinely believe the glass section or panel would have sustained damage or was faulty prior to taking delivery. This will not be the case. If you check the process and progress from maker to customer it can be seen how remote the chances of this are. Any fault in this glass is nearly impossible and if it should shatter, the rougher handling of the following process would find this out well before a customer receives it.
