WHY DOES MY SHOWER RADIO OR BLUETOOTH BUZZ?
WHY DOES MY SHOWER RADIO OR BLUETOOTH BUZZ
The reason for this is usually frequency interference. Your installer or yourself will have noticed a long white lead extending from the control panel, this is the ariel. Always unfurl this and move around to the point whereby the strongest signal is obtained, thus cutting the potential of interference.
STILL BUZZING?
There are further reasons for this and often due to the surroundings your unit is fitted in. External sources conflict with the steam room or showers control panel which houses an array of facilities unlike for example, a singular radio and as such more susceptible to interference from various sources. If the buzzing persists it is very much worthwhile fitting Ferrite cores. These are fitted to a great deal of electrical items already in your house today such as laptops, TVs, sound bars, sound systems and much more. Simply applied (as picture) clipping together over the wires. For reference power lead 240- volt to steam generator is 9mm and 12-volt supply from the generator 7mm, readily available from many sources such as Amazon.
BETTER BUT SOME NOISE STILL PRESENT.
The final reason is a ground loop . 3 examples of this are
Earth Ground
The connection between the electrical body and the earth, in this case house earth from plug to house. When an electrical device connects to artificial or natural ground, the connection provides the path for unwanted current to circulate through the circuit and add interference to the video/ audio signal
Signal Ground
Signal ground is the ground transmitted along with an analogue or digital signal between electrical devices in a system. Since the control panel devices are powered individually, they are more likely to have ground potential differences and produce varying currents. When there are multiple paths for electricity to flow to the ground, the ground paths will carry interference currents and turn them into voltage fluctuations. This will make the ground reference no longer stable, noise becomes a part of the signal in the form of a buzz or hum.
Chassis Ground
A chassis ground is the location connecting the metal Steam Generator / Electric box or transformer, typically used for shielding and grounding. By connecting the chassis with earth ground at one point, currents are prevented from circulating through the chassis. If not the current can flow through the chassis and cause ground loops.
For further details please consult an electrical engineer.
CURE
Like most kitchen and bathroom items, such as metal kitchen sinks, metal baths, etc, appliances require to be separately earthed. From your steam generator / electric box there is an earth wire with a singular ring on the end. Earth this wire to the shower chassis, now and importantly earth the shower chassis separately to ground. Always make sure the point you use is not though house plumbing etc as this may incur plastics pipes commonly used these days. For Showers without steam facility simply earth the shower chassis and repeat as mentioned.
WHY IS MY SHOWER OR STEAM ROOM RADIO BLUETOOTH BUZZ WHEN MY PORTABLE RADIO IS PERFECT?
Simply because the radio is just the radio and doesn’t carry all the features your shower does, additionally, your portable radio is not feeding back through an earth loop. Please see below:
