What should I use to clean my shower?
To Clean
Soap the shower down and wash off with water. One very good product Insignia recommends and available through many of our dealers (not ourselves) is Shower Guard. Apply this product when the shower is 100% clean and dry follow instructions and the next time you clean the shower it will repel water on the glass and columns giving protection and a very easy clean. Also, ask our retailers about the Insignia electronic water softener which prevents limescale and preserves the life of the shower.
VERY IMPORTANT! Never use any chemical cleaners
Even though your shower cleaning product probably mentions "ideal for showers" It is almost certainly NOT TO BE USED in a shower cabin. If you fully read the "don't's" most chemical manufacturers will cover themselves as not to be used on paints, metals etc. REMEMBER your shower cabin is a CABIN, not a walk in, tiled or glass door type of which these cleaning products are made for. Your product IS metal and DOES contain painted surfaces. If incorrect shower cleaners are used they will affect your paint/chrome/metal finishes. Below is a snap shot of just three of the most common bathroom cleaners used; note the wording:
The result of using these cleaners is they can and do bubble paint. This is most commonly seen around the water control knobs, around light recesses, in fact, any recess. Why? Because the chemical will be very hard to remove in these areas with a normal hand shower as most people use and therefore lies on the surface gradually building up chemical acids that will cause bubbling as seen with paint strippers. There is not another cause of this result and therefore not covered under warranty as it is not a manufacturer's defect. Heavy duty cleaners such as Cillit Bang/Lime Lite etc. will cause damage in a matter of hours sometimes. Milder cleaners may take months, usually from examples seen this could be 6 to 8 months on average, even longer. It is not a case for will it happen, but simply when it will occur! Always avoid harsh chemical cleaners as those mentioned, these can also strip metal fittings of their chrome finish if not used correctly. So if you use a shower cleaner READ what it cannot be used for NOT what it can be used for. Always pay extra attention to recesses when washing off/cleaning. Simple tips but important as it will avoid the disappointment of a premature degradation in the look of your shower cabin and the refusal to replace under the manufacturer's warranty.
ALWAYS wait until your cabin cools, cold water could shatter the glass!
Consequences of Incorrect cleaning fluids use
NOTE: ALWAYS clean off fully and correctly on any silicone present. Most modern silicones are mould resistant but only to an extent. In the steam shower environment, it is even more critical to clean thoroughly these areas. Despite the use of soapy water it will start turning black if not dried off afterwards or has something like the mentioned Shower Guard to protect it.
TIP: Dry completely or clean using a small toothbrush from time to time. Black presence in the mould is bacteria. Simple cleaning as mentioned prevents not only the spoiling look but bacteria itself. Easy enough to remove if regularly undertaken as mentioned, also impossible after many months of neglect. Common-sense really? We think so!
